Holistic Therapies

– Raindrop Technique with essential oils –

The Raindrop Technique is a form of aromatherapy massage that involves applying a sequence of essential oils to the back and feet, followed by massage and light application of heat. Created by D. Gary Young, the technique combines gentle massage with nine specific Living Essential Oils, such as oregano, thyme, basil, cypress, and peppermint, to support relaxation, relieve muscle spasms, and promote overall wellness. The oils are dropped like “raindrops” from a height and then “feathered” into the skin using various massage strokes.

– Mindfulness & Meditation –

Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present and aware without judgment, while meditation is a formal practice to cultivate mindfulness. Meditation uses techniques like focusing on your breath to calm the mind, whereas mindfulness can be integrated into daily activities. Both practices can reduce stress, improve emotional well-being, and enhance self-awareness

– Plum Village inspired mindfulness –

Thich Nhat Hanh found new ways to teach the art of mindful breathing and mindful walking as the foundation of meditation. He created simple practices like mindful teeth-brushing, mindful dish-washing and “tangerine meditation”. He developed a new style of walking meditation, and ways to combine deep listening with mindfulness of compassion to open up communication. He initiated a gentle way of guiding groups in meditation, so that even beginners could use breathing meditation as a way to look deeply, face challenges and heal, rather than escape the present moment.

Breathing mindfully helps us handle strong emotions, like anger, fear, anxiety and despair, and it helps us generate moments of happiness in daily life. For Thich Nhat Hanh, mindfulness is an energy to be cultivated all day long to sustain compassionate action so we can help relieve suffering in ourselves and the world.

– Essential oil work –

Essential oils can provide benefits such as stress relief, improved sleep, and enhanced mental clarity through aromatherapy. They also have antimicrobial properties, can help with nausea and other symptoms, and are used for cleaning or improving skin and hair health. These plant extracts are concentrated and work by stimulating the brain through smell or are applied topically to address various needs

– Guided meditation –

Guided meditation involves a practitioner being led through a meditative session by a teacher’s voice, typically via audio or video recordings. This format is especially beneficial for newcomers because the guide provides structure and gentle direction, helping to anchor attention and manage distractions. This form of practice has a wide range of documented benefits, from significantly reducing everyday stress and anxiety to improving overall sleep quality. The external guidance helps calm a racing mind, making it easier to achieve a state of relaxation and mental clarity.

– Tai Chi Inspired Movement –

Tai Chi-inspired movements include gentle, flowing exercises like “Cloud Hands,” which involves alternating arm circles, and “Golden Rooster,” a one-legged balance pose. Other movements focus on coordinated, rhythmic actions such as “brushing the knee and pushing,” “playing the pee-paw,” and “ward-off,” “rollback,” “press,” and “push,” which are basic defensive movements from some styles of Tai Chi. These movements are often combined with mindful breathing and can be modified for various skill levels.
